Discovery of self may be the most important thing we do in this lifetime, and yet many of us have yet to begin the journey.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and EMDR trained, I enjoy working with both adolescents and adults. I am heavily client-centered, as there is no movement toward healing without the readiness and willingness of the individual. As a trained Experiential Challenge Course facilitator for 23 years, I find that a "Challenge by Choice" philosophy works well in the counseling relationship, as it allows the client to feel in charge of the experience, thereby in charge of, and responsible for their own life experience. Trained and practiced in mindfulness for 20+ years, I enjoy teaching mindfulness skills to clients and groups that are interested in a personal inner journey of relaxation and stress / anxiety relief.
I earned my M.Ed. in 1996 and soon after, a License in Chemical Dependency.
I worked in mental health and dual diagnosis inpatient and outpatient treatment for almost 10 years before moving into the school setting where I served happily as the Middle School Counselor for Fort Worth Country Day for 15 years and Upper School Counselor for Trinity Valley School for 7 years. I earned my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in 2004 and my LPC-S (Supervisor) in 2022. Along with my private counseling practice, I facilitate Csomic Smashbooking groups for adolescents and adults and teach mind/body fitness classes, I am a 1st Degree Black Belt instructor in the movement technique Nia, a 200 RYT certified yoga instructor and trained in mat pilates.
For the last 8 years I've enjoyed personal growth through intentional creativity, most recently being trained as a Cosmic Smashbooking Guide. These practices influence my work in counseling, with art and intentional creativity and plays a role in self-discovery and healing for my clients. EMDR training has informed and influenced my work with trauma.
My healing philosophy is simple: The journey of this lifetime is inward and unique to each individual. Some of us grew up thinking that life is one outside of ourselves. We earn degrees, get jobs and promotions, and collect things. We may think this is who we are. We could reach a place in our lives where we ask "Is this all there is?" Inner self-knowledge is often the journey that satisfies our question.
Addictions, loss, trauma, or dysfunctional relationships can cause us to focus our attention outward and away from our inner, authentic selves. Going inward and discovering ourselves IS our life's purpose, and can be the ignition to life satisfaction and ultimate fulfillment. Are you ready to begin? Are you ready to remember your value and personal power?
